PPG Product Range

The PPG metal protective coatings range delivers proven, high-performance solutions for structural and industrial steel. Built for fabricators, contractors and maintenance teams who demand reliable corrosion protection at every stage of a project.

SigmaFast 20 (1K Alkyd Primer)

SigmaFast 20 is a fast-drying, zinc phosphate alkyd primer designed to provide immediate corrosion protection to prepared steel surfaces. As a single-pack system, it requires no mixing and can be applied directly from the can, making it well suited to fabrication shops, general structural steelwork and on-site applications where ease of use and speed are priorities.

Capable of being overcoated in as little as 45 minutes, SigmaFast 20 supports rapid production cycles and can be used as the base coat in a full system or as standalone protection in lower-risk environments.

SigmaFast System

PPG's SigmaFast system is designed around speed without compromise. Developed for steel fabrication and construction environments where throughput matters, SigmaFast products cure rapidly to minimise handling time and keep production schedules on track. The range spans primers and topcoats, offering a complete coating system from bare steel to a finished surface.

Choosing the right coating system has a direct impact on a fabrication shop's bottom line. With production efficiency under constant pressure, SigmaFast is formulated to help fabricators work faster without cutting corners on quality. Quick dry-to-handle performance, shorter overcoating windows and straightforward application combine to cut downtime and speed up turnaround, giving fabricators a coating system built to support both productivity and profitability on every job.

SigmaFast 40 (1K Alkyd Topcoat)

SigmaFast 40 is the semi-gloss topcoat designed to complete the SigmaFast system. Applied over a suitable primer, it delivers the colour, finish and UV protection that structural steelwork requires before leaving the fabrication shop or going into service.

Its fast-drying formulation keeps pace with the primer below it, making the two products a natural pairing for fabricators who need both coats applied and dried within a single shift. SigmaFast 40 provides good gloss and colour retention, maintaining its appearance under normal exterior exposure conditions.

SigmaFast 205LT (2K Epoxy Primer - Low Temperature Curing)

SigmaFast 205LT is a two-pack epoxy primer engineered specifically for fabrication and construction environments where cold temperatures would otherwise bring coating work to a halt. Formulated to cure reliably down to -5°C, it allows steel coating programmes to continue through winter and in cold-climate locations without sacrificing protection quality or schedule.

As a high-build primer, SigmaFast 205LT can be applied in a single thick coat, delivering robust anti-corrosion performance from the first application. It is designed for use in more demanding environments and forms the foundation of a full protective system when paired with a compatible epoxy build coat and urethane topcoat.

SigmaFast 278 (2K Epoxy Primer - High Build, Heavy Duty)

SigmaFast 278 is a heavy-duty two-pack epoxy primer developed for the most challenging steel fabrication requirements. Alongside conventional steel preparation, it is specifically engineered to adhere to surfaces that standard primers struggle with - including hot dip galvanised steel and thermal metal spray coatings.

When applied to thermally sprayed surfaces, SigmaFast 278 acts as a sealer coat, filling the microscopic pores of the metal spray layer before subsequent coats are applied. On galvanised steel, it ensures the full paint system bonds reliably to the zinc surface for the long term.

Available in a standard version and an MIO (Micaceous Iron Oxide) variant, SigmaFast 278 can be specified where maximum barrier performance is required. The MIO formulation incorporates flat iron oxide flakes that extend the path moisture must travel to reach the steel below, significantly improving resistance to corrosion in aggressive environments.
